Brain Tumor Surgery

Brain tumor surgery is a medical procedure performed to remove abnormal growths (tumors) in the brain. The main goal of the surgery is to remove as much of the tumor as possible without damaging the healthy areas of the brain that control essential functions like speech, movement, and vision. Depending on the tumor’s location, size, and type, surgeons may remove the entire tumor or only a part of it to relieve pressure and improve neurological function.

Modern brain tumor surgeries often use advanced techniques such as microsurgery, neuronavigation, and intraoperative MRI or CT scans to increase precision and safety. In many cases, brain tumor surgery is followed by additional treatments such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy to destroy any remaining cancer cells.

Types of Surgery
  • Craniotomy (opening part of the skull)
  • Endoscopic brain surgery (minimally invasive)
  • Awake brain surgery (for tumors near speech/movement areas)
