About Neurosurgery

​The history of Neurosurgery dates back to 2650-2600 BC by contributions from numerous persons which add on in the development of Neurosurgery. Modern Neurosurgery involved three developments like Anesthesia which provides pain-free surgery, Cerebral localization, and aseptic techniques. Harvey William Cushing was considered the Father of Modern Neurosurgery and made a tremendous impact in the field of Neurosurgery. Mahmud Gazi Yasargil was considered the Father of Microneurosurgery who made a huge impact in the treatment of neurovascular cases. Neurosurgery in India started with the efforts of Dr. Jacob Chandy who established the Neurosurgery Department at CMC Vellore in 1949 and is considered the founder of Modern Neurosurgery in India. With the efforts of Dr Ram G Ginde, neurosurgery was started in KEM, Mumbai. Later, in North India, Neurosurgery Department was started in 1956 with the efforts of Dr Baldev Singh. Thus, it was through the pain, sacrifice, and dedication of these numerous Scientists and Doctors, we, Neurosurgeons can treat complex neurosurgical cases and provide new life to patients. Moreover, innovations are still going on and surgeons all over the world are working tirelessly and developing various skills, techniques, and instruments which had made neurosurgery easier.
